CLINICS & CONTACT & REFERRAL INFORMATION

MAKING A REFERRAL

It is usually advisable to discuss any problems with your GP first who will have the expertise to know whether psychological treatment is indicated and whether this can be provided through the NHS as an alternative particularly if you do not have medical fees insurance. A referral letter from the GP is usually the next step which should be sent to the BUPA Hospital Leicester. Self-referrals are also accepted but it is advisable to discuss the nature of the referral with Dr Thorley's clinic secretary first to ensure that the problem is within Dr Thorley's expertise.

Once a referral seems appropriate, and whether a referral letter is being sent or not, a clinic appointment can be arranged at your chosen clinic by telephoning Dr Thorley's secretary at the BUPA Hospital Leicester. This ensures minimal delay in providing you with a convenient appointment. Otherwise, appointments will be sent out after the receipt of the referral letter.

FEES

If you have insurance cover, please check whether assessment and treatment for mental health conditions are covered. Some insurance companies require a referral from a medical practitioner first and in such cases it may be helpful to discuss this with Dr Thorley's clinic secretary first. If you are self-paying, an indication of fees can be given by the clinic secretary or bookings department and payments can be made by cheque, credit or debit card.

YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

It is helpful for both parents to attend with the young person at the first session. Agreement is reached on how the assessment is to be carried out and this can be with all present, the young person on their own or any combination. Assessments usually take between one and two sessions each lasting 1 hour and then it will be clear what treatment is indicated. There may be a number of treatment options which will be discussed with you by Dr Thorley.
